Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) evaluate the function of peripheral nerves by measuring the speed and strength of electrical signals travelling through them. These studies are commonly used to diagnose conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, entrapment neuropathies including carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, and various nerve injuries. Commonly tested nerves include the median, ulnar, radial, tibial, peroneal, superficial peroneal, and sural nerves. Both sensory and motor nerves are studied, and abnormalities may indicate demyelination or axonal damage.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a diagnostic procedure that records the electrical activity of the brain through scalp electrodes. It is widely used in the diagnosis of epilepsy, unexplained loss of consciousness, dementia, encephalopathy, head injuries, and other cerebral disorders. The patterns of brain waves obtained during the study help identify abnormal cortical function.

Electromyography (EMG) assesses the electrical activity of muscles both at rest and during contraction. It is useful in detecting myopathies, muscular dystrophy, motor neuron disease, and other muscular disorders. During the procedure, needle electrodes are inserted into muscles to evaluate the interaction between muscles and nerves.

Brachial Plexus Studies and Lumbosacral Plexus Studies are performed to evaluate the network of nerves supplying the upper and lower limbs. These studies help diagnose traumatic brachial plexopathy, nerve root lesions, inflammatory plexus disorders, lumbosacral plexopathy, radiculopathy, and diabetic amyotrophy.

Facial Nerve Studies assess the function of the facial nerve, including muscles such as the nasalis and orbicularis oculi. These studies are commonly used in cases of Bell’s palsy, facial paralysis, and post-surgical evaluation. They also include blink reflex testing as an important component.

Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS) evaluates neuromuscular junction function by repeatedly stimulating a motor nerve. This test is particularly useful in diagnosing disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis and Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome.

Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) measures the electrical response of the brain to visual stimuli. It is commonly used in the evaluation of optic neuritis, multiple sclerosis, and other disorders affecting the visual pathways.

Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) measures the auditory pathway from the cochlea to the brainstem. It is used for hearing assessment in newborns, and for diagnosing suspected acoustic neuroma and brainstem disorders.

Blink Reflex testing evaluates the trigeminal and facial nerve pathways. It is clinically useful in diagnosing trigeminal neuralgia, facial neuropathy, and brainstem lesions.

H Reflex testing is an electrically elicited equivalent of the ankle jerk reflex. It is commonly used in the evaluation of S1 radiculopathy, peripheral neuropathy, and reflex arc integrity.

Sympathetic Skin Response (SSR) measures electrical potential changes in the skin related to sympathetic nervous system activity. It is useful in diagnosing autonomic neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, and disorders affecting the sympathetic nervous system.
